It is used to express an action in the past using TO BE.
Was – I, he, she, it
Were – you, we, they
Negative – wasn’t (was not) and weren’t (were not)
Interrogative: Was he … ? Were they …?
Affirmative:
My brother was at home last weekend.
My parents were traveling last Friday.
Negative:
George was not (wasn’t) working last weekend.
They were not (weren’t) at home in the morning.
Interrogative:
Was Karen traveling last Christmas?
Were your brothers in your parents’ house?

She was working last Saturday.

They were studying last Monday.

He was swimming in the morning.
